SCAS Hosted Research Meeting within the CAT Programme

Last week, we were delighted to, for the first time, welcome a group of scholars of the Constructive
Advanced Thinking (CAT) programme to the Collegium. With their research project Moving beyond
Traditional Methods of Identifying and Overcoming Negative Attitudes towards Vaccinations (ACTION
Team), Principal Investigator Angelos Kassianos (University College London and University of Cyprus)
and his group consisting of Javier Alvarez Galvez (University of Cadiz); Ourania Kolokotroni (University
of Nicosia); Ilaria Montagni (University of Bordeaux), and Antonio Rojas-Garcia (University College Lon-
don) gathered in Uppsala for a week-long research stay in order to engage in conversations and develop
their ideas further. Stakeholder representative Catharina Margaretha Reynen-de-Kat (World Health
Organisation) participated digitally.

The CAT programme aims at supporting small groups of excellent early-career researchers conducting
fundamental research dedicated to developing new ideas to understand and to tackle current or emerging
societal challenges. The selected groups work on their project for a duration of up to three years and
during this time they are invited to meet for short stays at some of the participating institutes, where
they also get the opportunity to get in contact with the Fellows in residence at the institutes as well as
local research communities.

In addition to its stay at SCAS, the Kassianos group will also spend time at the Israel Institute for Advanced
Studies, Jerusalem; Montpellier Advanced Knowledge Institute on Transitions; and Scienza Nuova, Turin.

SCAS is one of twelve participating institutes of this initiative, which was developed within the framework
of the Network of European Institutes for Advanced Studies (NETIAS), and launched in 2019.
